RAIN SELLS UMBRELLAS BUT FASHION HELPS TOO
NEW YORK -- It's no secret -- umbrellas sell best when it rains.
But, even with this mainly impulse item fashion plays a role.
Men's specialty stores do best with moderate and upper-end umbrella sales when the umbrellas have interesting designs and are quality made.
"We basically carry two styles of umbrellas. One is a solid cotton umbrellas that retails for about $25 and we sell a ton of them, especially when it rains," explains Rick Lee, accessory buyer, Charivari, New York.
