In Bowhunting, The Best Gifts May Have Little To Do With Our Quarry
The predawn grey was gradually leaching into the visible range when the sound of rustling leaves emanated from a dense plum thicket under my tree stand. It's amazing how a few subtle sounds can kick your respiration and heartbeat into overdrive. The stirring sounds in the dry duff were also causing severe eyestrain as I tried to filter out the shape of a deer tiptoeing through the brush. My anticipation and expectations were cut short by the sight of a possum scuffling around the end of a log a few yards in front of my stand.
