Companies are already jockeying for position as Florida considers upgrading its flawed voting machines.
As litigators squabbled over ballots in. the chaotic 2000 presidential election, high-powered Tallahassee lobbyist Ron Book was seen in courtrooms all over the state, watching intently, his trademark collection of cell phones uncharacteristically silent. Book insisted he was there only to watch history in the making. But later, the ubiquitous lobbyist admitted he was there preparing for his latest pitch -- to the voting machine companies that will be peddling their wares to state and local election officials.
