To the Editor:
Your July 7 issue carried an Associated Press story of protests against our Navy's continued use of Vieques for bombing practice. According to the AP, "Chief U.S. District Judge Hector Lafitte ignored arguments that the protesters' acts of civil disobedience were aimed attending contamination of the environment and protecting the health of islanders."
One person has already been killed by a stray bomb. LaFitte was either disingenuous or totally ignorant of protest realities when he insisted that protesters have the political and legal means to fight for what they believed right without breaking the law.
But how can he be ...
