Just about the only thing Anna Polly could do after her 17-year-old son was killed by lightning, right in front of her eyes, was go to church. She went to Mass every day, she recalls. On Sundays, she came for the first Mass of the day and didn't leave until the last one ended.
She can't make it to church anymore. At 101, getting in and out of cars with her walker is an ordeal. Her eyes are failing her, and she can no longer read her Bible.
"I can pray what I know by heart," Polly said. "I won't give that up."
