Despite widespread belt-tightening throughout New York City, Craig Thorsen is splurging on an Equinox Fitness Clubs membership fee to keep his waistline trim.
Tired of the crowds at his prior club, the Manhattan executive tried Equinox earlier this year and found the luxurious fitness environment he wanted: a spacious facility with attentive staffers, dozens of well-maintained machines and piped-in music in a clean, carpeted locker room.
``Equinox cost a couple of hundred dollars more, but it was light-years ahead of where I was,'' he says. ``I joined in a heartbeat.''
