THERE is a moment two-thirds of the way through De Keersmaeker's I Said I when one of the performers makes her way to the front of the stage and starts screaming a phrase in a language that may or may not be Japanese. As she does this she is smoking, and clutching and biting at a Nike sports shoe.
Baring a breast, she guides the hand of a male performer to it and tugs thoughtfully at her knickers. Then donning a single frogman's flipper she lurches round the stage and into the audience. "Oh my God!" says the critic in the seat next to me, nervously gathering up her notes, "She's coming over here!"
