Contractors ask Congress for `orderly, prioritized' chlorofluorocarbon phaseout
WASHINGTON -- Tension over the near-term fate of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) ratcheted up another notch last week. Although hvacr industry leaders continued to plead for an orderly phaseout, Congress may be moving closer to a sudden and complete ban on CFCs.
If it doesn't, Irvine already has.
The City Council of Irvine, Calif., prohibited the use of CFCs in all industrial processes -- except the manufacture of drugs, or when military specifications call for CFCs. Automobile air conditioners and refrigerators are also exempt until substitute refrigerants become ...
