GALLUP POLL SHOWS CHAMORRO LEADING ORTEGA IN PRESIDENTIAL RACE
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A national Gallup poll taken last week in Nicaragua gives opposition leader Violetta Chamorro an 11-point lead in her presidential bid against Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega.
"Despite its lack of resources, Violetta Chamorro's democratic opposition has attracted major grass roots support," said Steven Edelen, executive vice president for the Council for Inter-American Security, a Washington think tank that helped sponsor the poll.
