The lakes will be stocked with fish this fall as planned, and Minnesota State Lottery tickets will be as available as ever, but it might take longer to get a driver's license, a birth certificate or a flu shot if the two largest state employees' unions go on strike a week from Monday.
The months-long impasse remains between state officials and unions representing almost 60 percent of its 52,000-person workforce: AFSCME (Council 6 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) and MAPE (Minnesota Association of Professional Employees).
