A SECOND North Wales town yesterday launched its bid for city status.
Thirty one years ago the people of St Asaph were stunned to learn that they did not live in a city.
Ever since the 18th century, residents had understood that it was officially a city but that belief was dashed in 1970 when it was revealed that an official charter had never been granted.
St Asaph, with its population of 3,600, has continued to be an ecclesiastical city but it is now hoped that the Queen will next year elevate it to civic status to mark her Golden Jubilee.
