Pizza-orderers ring up higher checks despite coupons and few add-ons.
National pizza chains see a higher percentage of customers using limited-time deals or coupons than all QSRs, and the numbers have trended up in the last five years. A 26-quarter average shows that 38 percent of fast-food users who ordered pizza on their most recent purchase occasion took advantage of a special promotion, according to the latest Quick-Track survey by Villa Park, Calif.-based research firm Sandelman & Associates. Of all QSR occasions, 19.6 percent included such a deal (see "Done Deals" chart).
