Federal officials have told the House Aviation Subcommittee the Federal Aviation Administration is failing to address the growing problem of airport runway incursions. At a hearing, the subcommittee was told there were 431 runway incursions in the U.S. in 2000--incidents in which two aircraft, or an aircraft and a vehicle, got too close together on an airport runway. Between 1993 and 2000, the number of runway incursions increased from 186 to 431--an increase of 132 percent.
