The orchid is not a subtle plant. Its alluring blossoms will woo you, wow you and win you over. That's what has happened to Jeff Stuart of Syracuse, hundreds of times.
Stuart's fondness for orchids goes back many years. As a youth, growing up in Pennsylvania, he sometimes tended to the orchids of a family friend.
Later, in the mid-1990s, he discovered Rice's Nursery in Homer, which for many years was Central New York's only commercial orchid grower. It closed in 2000, after the death of its owner, James Rice.
