by N.R. Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - Patients who present with lesions of the pharynx may have pharyngeal tuberculosis, especially if they are from TB-endemic areas, researchers in Saudi Arabia have found.
A.M. Alserhani and colleagues discussed typical diagnostic and clinical findings in patients with pharyngeal TB in their report published in the American Journal of Otolaryngology.
Of nine patients (two males and seven females) included in the study, each with a diagnosis of primary pharyngeal tuberculosis (PTB), three had nasopharyngeal TB, five had tonsillar TB, and one had hypopharyngeal TB.
