DALLAS _ Some big wheels may finally stop General Motors' long slide in market share.
Since the mid-1960s, when GM's surging sales were propelled by sleek Corvettes, sporty Chevelles and garage-filling Pontiacs and Buicks, the company's share of new-car sales has dropped from more than 50 percent to less than 30 percent.
But GM is on a bit of a roll this year, thanks partly to a strategy that relies heavily on trucks _ mainly full-size pickups and sport utility vehicles _ to pump up sales and halt the erosion in share.
