DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA -- IgE testing in young children with respiratory symptoms is helpful in detecting those who are at high risk for allergic asthma, Dr. Patrick J.E. Bindels said at WONCA 2001, the conference of the World Organization of Family Doctors.
He reported on a retrospective study of a group of children aged 1-5 years who presented to family physicians with cough lasting more than 5 days. All of the children underwent radioallergosorbent testing for specific serum IgE antibodies to inhaled allergens (house, dust mite, and dog and cat danders).
