Two unusual collaborators--an entrepreneurial emergency medicine resident and a scientist known for animal cloning--envision the development of an allergen-free cat by 2003. Dr. David Avner of Syracuse, N.Y, has founded Transgenic Pets and has contracted Dr. Xiangzhong Yang of the University of Connecticut in Storrs to do the genetic engineering and cloning research.
