With five percent of the U.S. population defined as clinically depressed and two percent to three percent of these individuals being hospitalized or seriously afflicted with depression, this disease has become the most prevalent psychiatric disorder. Women are twice as likely to experience depression than men.
A study in the September issue of the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association indicates that osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) may be a useful adjunctive treatment for alleviating depression in women.
