LANCASTER -- Bail was set at $500,000 Tuesday for Douglas E. Stuckey, who is charged with the Sunday night death of his girlfriend.

Stuckey, 32, of Boscobel is accused of beating Donna Crogan, 46, with his fists and feet and leaving her to die on the living room floor of the home they shared near downtown Boscobel.

Stuckey was arrested at 12:07 a.m. Monday, less than an hour after Crogan's body was discovered by her teen-age daughter. Vernon County sheriff's deputies arrested him north of Westby on Highway 14. Deputies said he had been fleeing in Crogan's car, but he stopped and surrendered.
