The skewering of Rafsanjani IRAN's president-elect, Mr Ali Akbar Rafsanjani, must be feeling glum. Barely did he have a chance to savour his overwhelming victory in the presidential election on July 28th when along came the Obeid-Higgins-Cicippio affair and with it a thorny decision. The imbroglio seems to require him to chose between better relations with the West and preserving the show of unity put on by the divided Iranian leadership since the death of Ayatollah Khomeini eight weeks ago. It is a choice he may not be ready to make.
