NEW YORK -- Despite the possibility of a bleak back-to-school season and the more imminent threat of torrential rain, retailers and vendors who attended last week's Children's Great Event remained upbeat.
"Today this is the retailers' mall," joked Allen Blum, executive director, who said he welcomed the dreary weather. "If it was a beach day who knows?"
Held Aug. 12-13 at the Newark Hilton in Elizabeth, N.J., this season's edition included 100 vendors and 400 retailers who pried themselves away from their stores at the beginning of the back-to-school season to check out new resources and do some at-once buying.
