Sep. 21--Mortgage rates could dip as low as 6.6 percent this fall, helping the housing market and offsetting some economic weakness, a national expert said Thursday.
Marsha Courchane, a principal economist for Freddie Mac, predicted a new wave of refinancing that would enable homeowners to take cash out of their homes and increase consumer spending.
"Rates came down earlier this year, but then they started climbing again," said Courchane, who was in Fort Collins this week to speak at the Northern Colorado Real Estate Conference.
