Article: Philadelphia City Council Wants Voters to Have Say on School Privatization.

Sep. 21--City Council unanimously passed a resolution yesterday authorizing voter approval before any Philadelphia public schools could be turned over to private management.

Councilman Michael Nutter proposed the legislation earlier this month, saying it was important for the taxpayers and parents to have more of a say in the school district's future.

But Mayor Street, who is awaiting a report from Edison Schools Inc. and Gov. Ridge on options for improving the troubled, 215,000-student system, is likely to veto the bill.
