A federal appeals court upheld the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between states and major cigarette manufacturers, ruling in June that the settlement did not violate U.S. antitrust laws.
The court rejected claims brought by a cigarette wholesaler who claimed that the MSA restrained trade. The settlement called for cigarette manufacturers to pay $206 billion to 46 states over 25 years, as well as restrict advertising and marketing. The plaintiff in the case had sought damages ...
