Pictures that are framed between two pieces of glass with a clear border around them are often referred to as "floaters." For these pictures a standard picture wire across the back is not an acceptable hanging method. If a wire were to be used it would be visible on the right and left gaps between the picture and the frame. These pictures have to be hung so the illusion that the picture is "floating" within the frame is maintained.
