New HCFA administrator gives luncheon attendees a sneak preview of what changes can be expected
At a recent luncheon before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, newly-elected HCFA administrator Thomas Scully unexpectedly announced plans to implement a ratings system that would measure quality of care provided by nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.
According to Scully, the agency would release numerical scores for every nursing home four times a year based on criteria such as staffing levels and medical credentials. The scores would be released using newspaper advertisements, the Internet and tollfree telephone numbers.
