How To MAKE DETROIT A GROWTH MAGNET
Detroit, alone, could end the metro area's tendency to sprawl, if, indeed, "urban sprawl" is considered undesirable.
How? Improve incentives to live and work within the city limits! Fortunately, Detroit has lots of vacant property. Unfortunately, Detroit has been very slow or unable to release thousands of city-owned parcels of abandoned or dilapidated properties back to the private sector.
Making property available for private development, rather than watch it accumulate as inventory in the public domain, is the key to turning around the population, employment, retail sales and school system in Detroit. Once ...
