Professor Joseph Hamburger, Pelatiah Petit Professor of Political and Social Science at Yale University, author of books on James Mill, John Austin and Thomas Macaulay, sadly died before his manuscript on John Stuart Mill was published in September 1999. He left a manuscript almost ready for publication and no significant changes were made to it by his family.
