Citizen Kane debuted 60 years ago, a revolutionary, dazzling film about the world's sixth-richest man who decided it'd be "fun to run a newspaper."
This week the film debuts on DVD with a revolutionary commentary track _ perhaps the best that's ever been recorded. And at the risk of sounding like a back-slapping homer, I must report now that it was recorded by another film critic.
Roger Ebert sinks his teeth into this assignment like a starving wolf into a fallen elk. It's as if he's been locked in a room for 10 years with nothing but a copy of Citizen Kane and every book ever written about it, and now he's dying to tell someone what he knows.
