When help is needed--in the United States and around the world--the Red Cross is there.

From the day Clara Barton began the American Red Cross (ARC) on May 21, 1881, she wished to serve Americans in times of peace and in times of war. She knew that relief (help) was needed during national disasters such as fires and floods as well as on the battlefield. Clara's wishes came true, and they continue to come true--120 years later.

What Clara Barton began is now one of the world's largest humanitarian organizations. (The goal of a humanitarian group is to help people.) The ARC helps people in many ways:
