Mario Botta does things differently, Almost every large urban building one can think off its the same pattern: from the outside, a large monolith imposing its mass (and, by inference, its importance) on the surrounding city, but, from the inside, a multitude of separate cells of space that cannot collectively be perceived as a whole. Botta's Banca del Gottardo, on the other hand, presents itself to the city in fragments, and only in its interior does it reveal a monumental singularity.
