Acting Gov. Jane Swift is sending in heavily armed National Guard troops to fortify security at Logan Airport and plans to give an extraordinary statewide TV address next week to ease public fears in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Aides say Swift's moves are designed to reassure residents still jittery about possible new terrorist threats and boost confidence in the state's flagging economy.
The 10-minute live TV address - planned for next Tuesday during the 6 p.m. local news broadcast - could stir echoes of former Gov. Michael S. Dukakis' famous "sweater" address to the state following the Blizzard of 1978.
