Mazda Motor Corp. has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire its distribution rights in Switzerland.
Two local companies - Blanc & Paiche and Sumitomo - had a shared investment in Mazda's Swiss distribution. The Blanc family had been a part of Mazda distribution in Switzerland for 31 years.
A formal agreement is expected to be signed in October. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Mazda has 44 main dealers, supported by 156 sub-dealers, in Switzerland. For the past three years, Mazda has sold about 9,000 units a year there, with its market share varying between 2.5 percent and 3 percent.
