KANSAS CITY, Kan. _ Let me admit, right up front, that I'm no expert on the intricacies of auto racing. Once, at the Indy 500, they handed out this sheet of paper that explained why certain cars did not finish the race. By one car it had the word: "Smoking."
And I thought, "Should a driver really be smoking during the Indianapolis 500? Isn't that dangerous?"
So, OK, I'm not exactly Cooter from "Dukes Of Hazzard." But still it has always seemed to me that the crew chief is the most important part of a racing team.
