Three recent festivals spoke volumes about Madison's local music scene as it is exposed, for better or worse, in highly visible outdoor events.
I am troubled by the implications of some criticisms, partly because they ring true.
In assessing the presentation and apparent impact of each festival, I would characterize the recent Orton Park Festival as a smashing success. The Jazz at Five series is a good time that tries hard, if perhaps missing on some tricky issues. The biggest and oddest creature, the Madison Blues Festival, followed its pattern of recent years: ...
