Article: Layered ionic conductors.

Ceramic oxide ionic conductors are to be investigated by researchers at Alfred University, New York, USA. The conductors find applications in electrochemical devices such as solid oxide fuel cells. Dr Scott Misture and Dr David Earl will investigate structures known as Aurivillius phases, specifically perovskite blocks between sheets of bismuth oxide (Bi2O2).

The project, Statistical Analysis of Cation Substitution Effects on the Ionic Conductivity of Aurivillius Phases, will seek to determine the effects of the three types of cation substitution: in the Bi2O2 layers, in the perovskite-like layers and in both layers.
