Quantum Technologies WorldWide Inc, USA, reports that it has demonstrated an all-composite tank that stores hydrogen at 69 MPa (10 000 pounds a square inch).
At 69 MPa, 80% more hydrogen fuel can be stored in a given space than at 34.4 MPa (5000 pounds a square inch). Potential applications include mobile fuel cells and the transportation of hydrogen.
The capability of Quantum's TriShield tank to safely store hydrogen at 69 MPa was confirmed through a hydrostatic burst test that achieved a burst pressure of 162 MPa (23 500 pounds a square inch); the European Integrated Hydrogen Project (EIHP) specifications require a 2.35 times factor.
