MARTINSVILLE -- A year ago, Frank Deiny Jr. showed other Late Model Stock drivers what they needed to do to win the season's biggest race, the Taco Bell 300 at Martinsville Speedway.
Today, the teacher will be the one to beat.
Deiny, of Mechanicsville, put his Monte Carlo on pole position for today's 200-lap feature with a speed of 89.341 mph. His time was 21.219 seconds.
``I didn't have a race car last year,'' Deiny said. ``I was here working for car builder Rick Townsend, helping drivers who had bought cars from him with any problems they had.''
