I sat down at the table full of older women and one of them said, Well, I see that you are joining us. Which struck me as an odd way to say, "Pull up a chair," until I realized that she wasn't talking about lunch.
She was talking about my hair, my gray hair. It was, apparently, looking especially salty that day. Hair does that, you know - changes from one day to the next. On a given Wednesday, I might think that no one could possibly notice; come Thursday, I look as though I fill flour bins at a bakery.
That's how it feels, anyway. Or maybe my hair just looks extra gray on bad days. Hair does that, too, you know - ...
