I was recently at a dinner meeting sponsored by a pharmaceutical manufacturer. The drug being discussed happened to be one that lowers cholesterol levels, but the specific drug isn't important. The moderator, as usual, was very well prepared. She presented a number of studies which, to no one's surprise, demonstrated the superiority of the drug being discussed over all its competitors. Studies on the competing drugs were, again to no one's surprise, either flawed or inconclusive.
The physicians' comments weren't too surprising either. A few decided the drug being discussed is the best thing since sliced bread. They promised to put all their patients on it. ...
