Rarely do doctors talk about a good bacteria. Yet there are many. Without them we may become ill. These bacteria, now called probiotic agents, are essential for proper functioning of the intestines.
Most childhood diarrheal diseases are caused by abnormal bacteria in the intestines. By modifying the intestinal flora (i.e. the types of bacteria in the intestine), diarrhea-causing bacteria are less likely to survive and multiple.
