by Deborah W. Heinrich, PhD, staff medical writer - Dose-dependent reductions in weight gain and food intake resulted from increased levels of leptin in the hypothalamus, according to a follow-up study by researchers in Florida.
H. Dhillon and colleagues, McKnight Brain Institute, University of Florida, Gainesville, assessed the dose-dependent activities of adeno-associated virus expression of leptin (rAAV-leptin) in female mice. Previous research from this group indicated that rAAV-leptin administration to the hypothalamus resulted in long-term weight loss due to a reduction in adiposity through thermogenesis.
