Moulinex, the domestic appliance manufacturer, on Friday filed for bankruptcy after its Italian parent failed to back a massive restructuring plan.
The company's collapse brings to an end an 80-year history of making food processors. The company was founded in 1922 by Jean Mantelet, an entrepreneur, who famously brought home a hand-operated device for crushing vegetables for his wife to try. Moulinex has since grown to become Europe's third-largest manufacturer of domestic appliances.
