SANTA ANA, Calif. _ Judge Robert Gardner sat in the jury box Thursday in the same courtroom where he tried his first murder case in 1937 _ and witnessed history in the making.
Gardner was a distinguished guest as the California Supreme Court convened in Orange County for the first time in the county's 112-year history.
"This is the closest I'll ever get to the Supreme Court," joked Gardner, who went on to become a Newport Beach city judge, a county Superior Court judge, a state Appellate Court Justice and the Chief Justice of American Samoa.
