The Long Island Rail Road Company (LIRR) was ordered to pay more than $1.8 million in damages and interest by a State Supreme Court Justice in Suffolk County, N.Y., after LIRR abandoned a locomotive with a ruptured fuel tank on private property in Farmingdale, Long Island in 1994.
