CONVERTO: THE DOUBLE-DUTY JACKET PREMIERS
NEW YORK -- Angel De Lagarde's son, Ricardo, kept losing his backpack, so his wife, Cathy, sewed it to the boy's jacket.
De Lagarde decided to market the outerwear innovation and hopes it will make a splash for spring.
The Paris-based designer and president of The American & Orient Co., Inc., took his wife's concept and developed a backpack that unfolds into a jacket with a back pouch. It is being sold in the United States, Europe and Japan under the Converto label. It makes its debut in Paris at next month's pret-a-porter.
