Crews from Wingra Stone are blasting away a dolomite formation along McKee Road near Verona Road to prepare for construction next year that will widen McKee Road (Highway PD).
Fitchburg police have had to shut down the road twice in the past two weeks to protect drivers from stone falling on the road when the company blasts, Sgt. Tom Schmit said.
No one has been injured by falling rock, and no vehicles have been damaged because the road is closed when blasting is done, Schmit said.
