Oct. 7--Two numbers stick out from the government's big settlement of criminal charges against TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc.
There was the record $875 million fine, the largest health-care fraud settlement in U.S. history. It was a huge capstone to the long-running investigation of a joint venture in which North Chicago-based Abbott Laboratories was a 50 percent owner.
Then there was the real eye opener: The $77 million whistleblower payment that went to former TAP sales executive Douglas Durand. It's a record, too.
