At 61, Herbie Hancock still thinks young.
Tonight he'll perform at Symphony Hall in a tribute to John Coltrane and Miles Davis, along with jazz heavyweights Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove.
Last week, the pioneering keyboard player and composer released a new CD with an entirely different cast that included DJs DXT and A Guy Named Gerald, Indian trance percussionist Karsh Kale, and bassist and sonic experimenter Bill Laswell, who co-produced the album with Hancock.
The disc, "Future 2 Future" (Transparent Music), is Hancock's take on electronica, which is a world removed from the post-bop-and-beyond music that he'll perform Sunday.
